Remote theatre scenery control STC Navigator

Initial situation:

• fixed standard main console with two 14" touch panel monitors
• additional console and siderack with two 19" plug-in PCs
• some equipment on rollers, but not mobile enough

 Task:

• to produce a light, portable remote control allowing on-the-spot control of functions
• time available for development: maximum 30 days
• similar to a remote control for cranes

Successful realisation:

• An electronic circuit board with a folding touch screen monitor, a joy stick, several switches and push-buttons, as well as the wiring – i.e. the whole complex – was encased in foam
• The EPP prototype was ready within 13 days
• The whole device was given an outer casing of stainless steel.

Advantages:

• weighs only 3.5 kilogrammes
• the individual components are simply ‘clicked’ into place and are then held securely
• the STC-Navigator can be taken everywhere
